February 19-21 Holiday Inn $200.00 Due by January
February Retreat
Wanted! Quilters Looking to Sew!
We started with sunny and cold weather. There were man early arrivals with new projects, in progress projects, and just a few UFOs. The Retreat Piecemakers had many projects and ideas to execute over the week-end. Donna Staby brought a collection of UFOs with the first goal being last year's Victory Quilt. Jan Garland
worked all through the weekend on a Block of the Month in wines, purples, and tans. We all watched the quilt come tighter block by block. Carol Selepec finished a black, white and red quilt top. Joy Brieck quilted red and tan quilt, whose life was in jeopardy after the flood at her house. Not to worry, careful cleaning saved the day. Lillian Dennis worked through a wedding ring pattern with no curved seams.
The retreat designated projects included exploring stained glass and back-basted applique. Fran Kordek (NQS first National Teacher of the year) taught stained glass using a double-folded 1/4 bias tape and double needle. Harriet Stickles had a personal session using Fran's sewing machine. Being freed from using fusible bias tape has intrigued a few Piecemakers to reconsider few long-delayed but not forgotten stained glass designs. Allison Stanley was a real trooper coming to the the the rescue as a substitute instructor for back-basted applique. This class worked on a floral block that could be a wall hanging, or part of a quilt. Ginny Johns for more information about The Quilters Corner's applique block of the month. this block is yet to be published.
Every retreat has its moments.
- Harriet's husband hand delivered cookies and banana nut muffins Friday.
- Sheila and Marilee finished the retreat project before leaving on Sunday.
- Saturday night, we shared the pool side with a couple of birthday parties.
- Quilters to the rescue, one little girl forgot her swimsuit, but had a pair of shorts just a little to big, a couple of seams, let her make a big splash.
- Vickie and Donna were carded at the bar. However, there was no senior discount offered.
- Two Piecemakers left the hotel with out their suitcases. In true quilter's fashion, remembered to take their sewing materials.
- The flu took its toll; we weren't able to enjoy Judy's or Darlene's company, a special thanks to Carol and Lois for taking their equipment and materials home.
- Darlene's Husband also had the current bug.
- Barbara gave chase after Gail, she had a heart attack on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital.
The retreat committee wants the guild to know, we appreciate the many members who contributed to making this year's retreat happen. Many hands make the job easier and more fun. We never lacked for volunteers who loving offered their special talents. we already have volunteers for next years retreat!

Feb. 19-21, 2010
Location: Beaver Falls Holiday Inn
Since our January meeting was cancelled, we need help from the ladies that are going to retreat. If you haven't already let us know if you are taking a class or doing your own thing, please notify us as soon as possible so we can let the teacher know. Also, if you are taking a class, we need to know which of the two you are planning on taking - Ribbons of Valor or Dancing Leaves.
We also need to have the final amount due for class at the February meeting - no later. We have to turn a final count in right after that to the Holiday Inn. We can still take new sign ups as long as you pay in full at the February meeting - it isn't too late girls.
You are allowed to check in to the classroom as early as 10 AM on Friday. You are responsible for your own lunch if you go early - dinner only for that day is included in your total costs. Room check in time is at 3 PM - no earlier.
If anyone wants to make cookies or bring snacks, they may do so.
Can't wait - it's almost time.
Thanks,
Lois and Carol
